Social ISSUEs ENGAGEMENT
I created a short film called “Jory”. JORY is a story about a young Asian American teenager who struggles to find a home between his love for dance and his relentless, immigrant parents who want what's "best for him." (Jory is not public because of film festival tour regulations of no online premiere. Check out my social media for future releases at film festivals near you).
The film is inspired by the hardships of first-generation Asian Americans who grow up with "tiger parents" and are constantly told to meet extremely high expectations, whether that means sacrificing sleep, extracurricular activities, or mental health.
This short film explores the perspectives of both second-generation Asian Americans and their immigrant parents and what it means to be a good parent or a good immigrant son/daughter or none of those.
This project allowed me create a successful kickstarter. We set the Kickstarter for 10 days and the goal was $3000. However, I raised $4000 dollars in 5 days. This happened with my skills on social media marketing. I created content to promote the Kickstarter. I collaborated with well-known actor and filmmaker Justin Chon to promote it on my social media. This project helped me connect with talented filmmakers and actors. Also, allowed my film to be featured in a news segment on NBC Bay Area. I’ve learned a lot from this project and next time I would start earlier for a possibility of gaining more funding. If I was able to raise $4000 in 5 days. How much money could I raise in 20 days or 3 months. I believe the campaign was a success. I would not change any methods I used for the Kickstarter, minus starting earlier.
